Box 591
Somerset, CO 81434
RE: SLOPE STABILITY ANALYSIS -STACK TUBE PROJECT
Dear Cathy:
A slope stability analysis was performed on the critical section for the stack tube
project. This critical section is located on Ilse western edge of the project site where
the till required for this project is approximately 40 feet in height. The use of coal
refuse or "gob" as a fill material was modelled in this analysis. Shear strength parameters for all
materials were based on previous sl~eal tests on samples similar in nature to the stack kube soils
for other projects for Mountain Coal Company. For the analysis, we assumed the stack tube site
was filled with coal to its designed maximum height.
The results of the stability analysis showed tl\at a minimum 50-foot wedge of native clay fill material
on the outside edge must be used for this project to meet the minimum (actor of safety
requirements found in the CMLR general grading requirements 4.14.2 (2) (c). The results of the
stability analysis are shown on Figure 1.
If you have any questions concerning this analysis, please feel tree to give me a call.
Slncereiy,
Geo 1 Gol Inc.
Charles C.
