Eventual reclari~ation will include over 900 acres. T};e
general methods of reclamation axe as follows:
Filling with overburden, grading sides of any
depression to 2:1 or less, slopes and seeding. The
areas to be reclaimed by this method are A6, A7, E5,
and part of E9, or approximately 155 acres.
2. Filling with CKD, then covering with 6" to 12" of
cover, and seeding. The areas reclaimed in this
manner will be A2, E1, E2, E3, and part of E9,
comprising about 315 acres. These areas will have a
smooth, gently sloping surface, and be bounded on
the east by graded overburden ridges, with 2:1 side
slopes. CKD is an acceptable fill material in this
area because it does not contain toxic pollutants,
and this formation is practically impervious, with a
measured permeability of less than .O1 milli-
darcies. There is virtually no groundwater in the
quarrys, and no surface water flowing across the
quarry.
Fill with silica sludge, cover with overburden a;s
necessary, and seed. The Al area is being reclaimed
in this manner. The area is about 40 acres.
Highwalls with filled bases and cleared tops. A!i
will be reclaimed in this manner. Wherever the
highwall extends more than a quarter of a mile
without a break, a game ramp will be blasted into
it. Highwalls are naturally stable in this quarry
because the formations dip into the highwall, thus
locking the blocks in place by gravity. Loose
overburden will be cleared away from the top of i:he
highwall.
The C-band areas are a special case. They are too
far in the future to determine their configuzatian.
This current plan, for purposes of bonding at this
time calls for spreading soil substitute on the
disturbed areas, and seeding. The low 10-12 foot:
highwall will remain.
b. The first ridge of the foothills formed by the limestone
outcrops being quarried presents conditions explainer in
the Mining Plan and Exhibit E introduction, that are not
comparable to the 1/2 mile wide valley to the west, cr
the partially irrigated lands to the east. However, the
resulting reclaimed topography and vegetation will be
consistant with the broader region, with some ridges,
outcrops, and occasional pockets of internal drainage.
It will form typical dry range, and wildlife habitat.
If commercial, or other industrial or residential goals
22
