using air until such time that a water medium will be necessary. Auxiliary equipment will include
one (1) D-7 rated dozer, pipe truck, personnel vehicles, and a geophysical logging truck.
Drill holes on some occasions will require new road work. Necessary agreements from surface
owners have been or will be obtained prior to disturbance. Topsoil from pioneer road work, mud
pits, and construction of drill pads will be stockpiled for reclamation. Average size of disturbances
aze: drill pads 60 feet by six (6) feet, mud pits 12 feet by six (6) feet by five (5) feet, and
roadsapproximately 14 feet wide.
Drill holes will be sealed with a combination of cutting, bentonite compounds and Portland cement
slung. The sealant will be placed from bottom to within ten (10) feet of the surface. Holes which
have multiple aquifers or bedrock aquifers will be sealed using a Portland and/or bentonite plug
extending 50 feet above and below the water bearing zone in accordance with 43 CFR 3484.1(a)(1).
All surface casing will be removed and/or cut off three (3) feet below the surface. An approved
expandable plug will be placed ten (10) feet below the surface and an approved cement slurry will
be placed to within three (3) feet of the surface.
Development drill holes may be temporarily secured for possible re-entry or future use prior to final
abandonment. In such instances, drill holes will either be cased or sealed to prevent possible aquifer
communication as described above. Development holes will be surface cased and cemented or
grouted in all instances and tightly capped to prevent unauthorized entry or surface or subsurface
water in-flow. Protective barricades or fencing will be installed to prevent damage to the portion
of the casing protruding above the ground surface. If development drill holes are not subsequently
used for mine development purposes, they will be abandoned in accordance with the standazd
procedure previously described.
Reclamation costs are estimated on an average of $1,350.00 dozer fee plus $950.00 for mulched-seed
mix per acre of disturbance.
Seed Mix For Drill Sites
Western Wheat Grass
Intermediate Wheat Grass
Indian Rice Grass
8.1 PLS/ac
7.2 PLS/ac
2.7 PLS/ac
All seed to be broadcast, covered by a straw mulch then crimped by dozer. Proof of compliance
will be provided within 60 days after abandoning a drill hole, specific drilling program approved
by the Division, or when requested by the Division, the operator will submit a report detailing
the following information:
TR-94-25 2.05.3-21Ra Revised 10/21/94
