Geotechniwl Data Report Bruce Park Dam
Bowie Resources, Limited
April 2001
Section 3 -Geological and
Geotechnical Investigations
3.1 General
GEI performed geologic mapping and subsurface geotechnica] investigations at the site.
The geotechnical investigations included drilling exploratory borings at the main dam
and saddle dam and installing open standpipe piezometers. The geologic mapping and
field investigations were performed between November 18 and November 29, 2000.
Agapito Drilling, Inc., of Grand Junction, Colorado provided the drilling services under
contract to Bowie Resources, Ltd. GEI observed the drilling and field testing, logged the
soil and rock materials obtained from each hole, preserved the samples, and maintained
records of drilling activities. A summary of the boring locations, depths and piezometer
installations is presented in Table 1. The approximate boring locations aze shown on
Figure 2.
3.2 Geologic Mapping
GEI performed surficial geologic mapping of the main dam, saddle dam, and surrounding
areas. The mapping was recorded on a 1" = 100' scale topographic base map of the site
provided by Bowie Resources, Ltd. The field mapping generally confirmed our
interpretation of published references for the area. A geologic map of the dam and
reservoir area is provided on Figure 3.
3.3 Exploration Borings
Seven exploratory borings were drilled at selected locations in the main dam and saddle dam
azeas. The borings were approximately located based on topographic features identified on
the base topography provided by Bowie Resources. The objectives of the exploration
borings were to: 1) identify subsurface stratigraphy and subsurface conditions within the
main dam and saddle dam; 2) identify subsurface stratigraphy and subsurface conditions in
the foundation below the main dam, saddle dam, and abutments; 3) obtain samples of dam
and foundation materials, for visual examination and laboratory testing; and 4) perform field
. tests at selected intervals in the main dam, saddle dam, foundation and abutment materials.
GEI Consultants, IriC. 4 99292-Ja.t6 Geotecnn, ral Oau Report
