Geotechnical Data Report Bruce Park Dam
Bowie Resources, Limited
April 2001
3.3.3 Packer Testing Procedures
During drilling in bedrock, packer pressure testing was attempted in Boring BD-102
to determine the apparent hydraulic conductivity of the rock mass. A positive seal
could not be maintained in the borehole and the test was abandoned. No further
packer testing was attempted.
3.4 Piezometer Installations
Single-level, open standpipe piezometers were installed in five borings. Piezometers were
installed by Agapito Drilling, Inc. under the observation of GEI's field engineer. Open
standpipe piezometers were installed in Borings BD-101, BD-103, BD-105, BD-105A, and
BS-102.
The piezometers generally consist of nominal 1.5-inch, Schedule 40, PVC pipe. The PVC
pipe is slotted and surrounded by graded sand to create a zone of influence over which
groundwater can flow into the piezometer. The top of the influence zone is sealed by at least
;~ 2 feet of bentonite. Non-shrink cement-bentonite grout or bentonite chips are used to backfill
the borehole to within 2 feet of the ground surface. Eight-inch-diameter, flush-mount surface
casings, embedded in 2 feet of concrete are installed along the crest of the dam where snow
mobile traffic is expected. A 5-foot-long, 4-inch-squaze steel casing embedded in 2 feet of
concrete was used at BD-103. A summary of the piezometer installations and influence
zones is presented Table 1 and the influence zones aze shown in cross-section on Figures 4
and 5. Logs of piezometer installations aze provided in Appendix B.
Where piezometers were not installed, Borings BD-102 and BS-104, the borings were
backfilled to the ground surface with non-shrink, cement-bentonite grout upon completion of
drilling and testing.

GEI Consultants, Inc. 6 9929201-:a-16 Geo~eUmcai Data riepon
