Clumps of Nebraska sedge can be transplanted into the
wetter areas in addition to the recommended seeding.
Weed control the first 1 to 2 years is almost always necessary.
Weeds can be controlled by mowing several times during the
growing season, to a height above the tap of the seeded grass.
After the grass seedlings have reached at least the 4 leaf stage,
broadleaf weeds can be controlled chemically. Spraying a mixture
of herbicides, such as 2,4,D (1/2 to 1 lb, active
ingredient/acre) and/or Banvel (1/8 to 1/4 lb. active ingredient/
acre) will help control most broadleaf weeds. Care should be..
taken to not get the spray on any of the shrub or tree
plantings. Use of any chemicals prior to the 4 leaf stage may
severely damage the young grass seedlings.
Livestock should 6e excluded from the seeded areas for a minimum
of 2 to 4 growing seasons after planting. Thereafter, very
limited deferred grazing could be practiced without undue
negative impact on wildlife habitat.
FrFra~~J~y~y(L'.J
District Conservationist
Attachments:
Soil map
Soil descriptions
