The following is an update of mine cater
discharge activity since requesting the dual chemical
treatment and the information requested by the division.
Mine water Dischsree
Since mid-March 1992, Mine Water has been pumped to both
ponds 002 snd 003. The cleaner 2-right caster was either
used in the mine for fire supression snd dust control or
pumped to pond 002. Samples of this water met the NPDES
requiremments.
The remainder of the caster was pumped to pond 003. This
caster typically represented the mine cater higher in TSS. A
eight hour composite sample was collected from the pond
discharge as a pre-discharge test prior to commencing
routine discharge. TSS for this grab sample toss 61 gms/ml.
The pond had been receiving inflow for over thirty days
yielding an average retention time of st least 15 days.
Thus, even with greatly increased retention times it is not
anticipated that the mine caster can meet the average TSS
limits of the NPDES permit, and discharge was discontinued
after the eight hour test.
Due to increased precipitation snd rising pond levels,
routine discharge was started from pond 003 on May 28, 1992.
The discharge has been sampled on s weekl}• basis since that
time; however, lab results have not been received.
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
14300 Highway 12
Weston, Colorado 81091
(719) 868-2761
FAX (719) 868-2275
June 9, 1992
