Box 2227
Fort Collins, Colorado 80522
Attn: Mr. Paul Thomsen, Plant Engineer
Re: Geotechnical Engineering Report, Slab Canyon Quarry Reclamation
Larimer County, Colorado
ELI Project No. 20945006
Empire Laboratories, Inc. (ELI) has completed a geotechnical engineering exploration for the
proposed project to be located at the Slab Canyon Quarry approximately 20 miles north of Fort
Collins, Colorado. This study was performed in general accordance with our proposal number
D2094010 dated January 13, 1994.
The results of our engineering study, including the sample location diagram, laboratory test results,
l and the geotechnical recommendations needed to aid in the design and construction of earth
connected phases of this project are attached.
The site observation indicated conditions which are typical of soils commonly found in the foothills
area north of Fort Collins. Bedrock encountered consists of sandstone and limestone of the
Ingleside Formation. Stockpiled material to be used to construct the berms consist:: of sandstone
excavated by blasting. Laboratory tests indicate the excavated material is nonpl<IStic, pervious
and has high shear strengths.
Based on the geotechnical engineering analyses, site observation and laboratory test results, it is
our opinion the proposed load-out benches will be stable at the planned slope of 'I %.:1 .
Other design and construction details, based upon geotechnical conditions, are presented in the
report.
Olllees of The 7errecon Compenles, Inc.
