ANACONDA MlnP:als Company
555 Seventeenth Street
Denver, Colorado 80202
Telephone 303 293 4000
June 12, 1985
Ms. Susan Mowr,~
Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Susan:
~~~~~~~~
~ U N 1 3 1985
MINED LAND
RECLAMATION DIVISION
West Elk Coal Company (WECC) requests the following minor modifications to
the Mt. Gunnison Mining and Reclamation Plan (Permit C-007-80).
1. .As shown on the attached map, WECC is proposing to construct a small
parking area adjacent to the fresh water pond. This area, approximately
100 feet by 100 feet in dimension, will be constructed on a previously
disturbed area. The area will be graded, covered with a filter fabric
to minimize erosion and then covered with a minimum of six inches of
gravel.
Drainage for this area is to the drainage ditch on the inside of the
road to the fresh water pond and on into the main access road drainage
ditch which in turn drains into Sedimentation Pond MB #2. Since the
area has been previously stripped of topsoil, no topsoil removal is
necessary. Reclamation of the parking lot will be done at the time the
surface facility area is reclaimed or before, and will be done in
accordance with Section 4.4 of the Mt. Gunnison M and R Plan.
Reclamation of this area is covered by the present reclamation bond
since it is within the current surface facilities area.
2. WECC is proposing to centralize its non-coal refuse disposal. At
present there are dumpsters located around the site. Our proposal is to
locate two to four dumpsters at the location shown on the attached map
and eliminate the dumpsters on the portal bench. This dumpster area,
adjacent to the mine's main access road, between the portal bench and
the water tank has been previously disturbed and all vegetation and
topsoil removed. To access the site, vehicles will enter from the main
access road, cross the drainage ditch to the dumpster site. A 24-inch
CMP culvert will be installed to maintain drainage in the ditch. Like
the parking site, reclamation of the dumpster site will be done at the
time the surface facilities area is reclaimed and will be done in
accordance with Section 4.4 of the M and R Plan. Reclamation of this
area is covered by the current reclamation bond since it is within the
current surface facilities area.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
S ely,
Paige B.
