(AFSI). The decision date for your application is scheduled for July 25, 2002. <br />Therefore, I would appreciate a response from you on or before July 19, 2002. Please be advised that your <br />amendment application may be deemed inadequate and may be denied on July 25, 2002 unless the adequacy <br />review items listed below aze addressed to the satisfaction of the Division. <br />6.4.4 EXHIBIT D - Minin¢ Plan <br />8. The operator has proposed an expansion of 125.88 permitted acres. The existing (approved) mining and <br />reclamation plan specifies the following: 1) mining near-vertical faces of approximately 40 feet with benches of <br />IS feet and 50 feet, 2) every third bench will be 50 feet wide, and 3) overall bench slopes may vary between 0:1 <br />and 1.1:1 (existing natural slopes are approximately 0.8:1). A site inspection by the Division on April 8, 2002 <br />revealed four (4) exposed highwall faces with the following conditions: <br />North Highwall :800' long x 85' high @ an angle of 53 degrees, no bench(s) <br />South Highwall :679' long x 270' high @ angle of 45 degrees, no bench(s) <br />West Highwall(a) :497' long x 176' high @ 83 degrees, no bench(s) <br />West Highwall(b) :497' long x 348' high @ 40 degrees, no bench(s) <br />Upper East Highwall :1,255' long x 240' high C~ 43 degrees <br />East Highwall Bench :1,255' long x 45' average width <br />Lower East Highwall :1,255' long x 398' high @ 40 degrees <br />Under the terms of the proposed amendment the operator will proceed with mining the existing north face by <br />creating a stairstep configuration of 80' high vertical faces with 180' wide benches that will be backfilled with <br />overburden and fines to produce a 3:1 slope. The operator specifies that no more than 1,000 lineaz feet of north <br />slope area will be left open for filling at one time. Also, the applicant mentions on page 14 that near vertical <br />benches will be left as an extension of the east face, around Frei Lake on the west side of the mine, and along the <br />east and south side of the existing permit area. In these azeas, the approved highwall and benching configuration <br />of 40 foot faces with benches of 15 feet and 50 feet will be implemented. The desired result will be an overall <br />
