. iii iiiiiiiiniuiii
~~°`°~Q STATE OF COLOI~U
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: April 11, 1988
T0: Memo to File
FROM: Karen A. Hellner
RE: Renewal Bond Calculations
FILE: C-81-21, Bourg Strip
In the renewal adequacy response, dated March 14, 1988, Walden Coat Company
estimated the worst case reclamation costs to be $536,670.30. The Division
also reviewed the bond and estimated the worst case reclamation costs to he
$598,322.98 as shown on the attached sheets. Both estimates were based on
placing 450,000 LCY of material into the pit. Minor Cost differences were
noted in several categories, but tfie largest. discrepancy occurred in the
calculation of equipment costs for revegetation activities.
Since March 14, 1988, the operator has placed at least an additional 100,000
LCY of material into the pit. The backfilling progress has heen monitored by
inspections from the Division: This reduces the reclamation cost estimate by
$75,368. Please refer to the calculations listed below.
5000 LCY/Day * 20 days = 100;000 LCY
100,000 LCY * $.75368/LCY = $75,368.00
Production rate and cost/LCY taken from the Earthwork Estimating-Scraper Work
Worksheet.
Subtracting the $75,368.00 from the Division's estimate of $598.323.00 leaves
$522,955.00 for reclamation. Therefore, the reclamation cost estimate of
5536,670.30 submitted by Walden Coal Company is adequate to complete
reclamation of the site in the unlikely event that a forfeiture should occur.
Attachment
cc: Sandy Brown w/ attachment
Mike Long w/ attachment
6689E scg
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
