Dear Mr. Perry:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 33, Article 34,
Section 118, Pazagraph 3 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on April 10, 1996, an application to renew an
existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Canadian Strip Mine was considered complete for the
purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from
this date of filing.
The applicant proposes to continue reclamation operations on land located approximately 12 miles east of
Walden, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows:
Township 8 North. Rance 78 West. 6th P.M.
Section 2: Portions of SW'k
Section 10: SES4 NE'b NE'k
Section 11: W'k NW'ti
The above-mentioned tracts of land aze shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Johnny Moore
Mountain.
The Canadian Mine was a surface mine which was reclaimed in years 1979 through 1981, with a final 55 acres
reclaimed in 1987. Two ponds remain on site as permanent impoundments to support the post-mining land use
of rangeland and wildlife habitat. Phase I and II bond releases have been granted for the reclamation work
accomplished.
A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Jackson County Courthouse, 396
Lafever Street, Walden, Colorado 80480, and at the Division office. For additional information, to provide
written comments,or request an informal conference, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215,
