Dear Mr. Hegeman:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, N accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph
4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February l8, 1999, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie
No. 2 Mine was consideredcomplete for the putposesof filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All
review and comment periods az provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this dale of filing.
Approval ofthistechnicalrevisionwouldallowmininginthewestsectionofthealreadyapprovedpermi[area. Mining would
remain conventional room and pillar and there would not be any increase in the production rate. No Federal coal is involved.
In addition, the mine plan map is being updated with this technical revision to show the current extent of mining and the
proposed addition to the mine plan. Finally,the subsidencesection ofthe permitapplication is being updatedto include mining
through the fault that will need to occur in order to access the proposed west mine section.
The undergroundcoalmitting operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The petTnit
area is further described az follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, I I, 14, I5, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.Ivt.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Delta County Courthouse, 5th & Palmer,
Delta, CO 81416, and at the Division office. For additional informationor to provide written comments, contact the Division
of Minerals and Geology, Room 215. 1313 Sherman Sheet, Denver, Colorado 80203, [phone]. In order for us to
comply with regulatory time frames; we request that comments be submitted within fifteen (IS) days of this letter. If no
comments are received by then, we will proceed on [he assumption that you have no concerns with, or objections to, the
applicant's proposal.
