SHELTON Director
A 4hai~ D Lamm
Govemo~
March 15, 1983
Mr. Scott Jones
Snowmass Coal Co.
P.U. Box 980
Carbondale, Colorado 81b23
RE: Npproval to Install Monitoring System North Thompson Creek Kline
C-U25-81 and Exploration File CX-182-OU
Dear Mr. Jones:
The Division has received your request to install a surface water
Inontioring site on North Thompson Creek upstream from the mine. The site
is outside the permit boundary of Permit C-025-81.
In order to expedite the project before spriny runoff it was agreed in
our hlarch 10, 1983 telephone conversation to handle the request as an
exploration project. The gathering of environmental data is included
within the definition of coal exploration (Rule 1.04(2[)).
The Division has determined that the project qualifies as coal
exploration without substantial disturbance to the land surface. No
performance bond will be needed for this project however, Snowmass should
recogize that this project must still comply with the performance
standards of Rule 4 and is subject to the inspection and enforcement
regulations of Rule 5.
The project is approved affective March 10, 1983 contingent on obtaining
landowner access consent.
Sometime later this year when all monitoring sites have been completed,
it would be appropriate to revise the permit boundary to include all the
sites within the pending Permit C-025-81, We can discuss this in the
future.
Sincerely, -~
~- -~
Kobert G.
