Box 20000-5010
Grand Junction, CO 81501
RE: Fruita Mine Phase 1 Bond Release for Hackfilling and Grading (File No.
C-81-015)
To Whom it May Concern:
The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division proposes to grant a partial
bond release for the Fruita Mine (File C-81-015). The American Shield Coal
Company, operator of the mine, has requested that the Division release the
portion of the performance bond that is held for completing the backfilling
and grading in accordance with the reclamation plan. On February 28 1991, a
bond .release inspection was conducted at the Fruita Mine. The Division
finds that the bacltfilling and grading had been completed in accordance
with the approved reclamation plan. The Division currently holds $90,000
and proposes to release 60$ or $54,000 in a phase 1 bond release. The
Division estimates that the remainder of the bond, $36,000, will be
sufficient to complete the remaining reclamation and to abate any pollution
of surface or subsurface waters. The Division's performance bond
calculations are available for public review at the Denver Office.
A copy of the bond release request is available at the County Planners
office in Grand Junction and at the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Division Office in Denver at the address above.
The description of the property is as follows: All underground workings and
surface facilities lie within T8S, R101W of the 6th P. M. in the NE 1/4 of
Section 30 and the NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 29. The parcel of land
in question is located on the U.S.G.S. Ruby Lee Reservoir 7.5 Minute
Quadrangle in Mesa County.
1
