This technical revision request addresses construction of a new refuse sediment collection ditch. The proposed triangular shaped ditch will be installed along the east side of the sediment pond between the light use road and the toe of the refuse pile. The ditch will function to collect all surface run off from the west slope of the refuse pile and route it to the existing pond inlet located at the pond's southeast corner. The ditch will prevent the sediment load carried off the west slope of the pile from flowing directly into the pond. Some sediment will settle out along the ditch thus reducing the amount entering the pond. Also, with all flow entering at the pond's inlet, detention time will be increased. The new ditch has been labeled Refuse Sediment Collection Ditch No. 2 and is shown on map 12, Mine Site Water Systems and Refuse Area (revised 4/10/90). The existing refuse ditch along the refuse pile's south toe has been re-labeled Refuse Sediment Collection Ditch No. 1, accordingly. The design for Refuse Sediment Collection Ditch No. 2 has been incorporated into Section 2.05.3 (4), Ponds, Impoundments and Diversions (revised 4/13/90), of the permit application. The above mentioned revised text and map, submitted on April 16, 1990, are incorporated herein by this reference.
