PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />1. Physiographic Features <br />8204 <br />Topography is ridges, hog-backs, mesas, and steep slopes Slope is <br />often east facing bat can be in any direction. Slope va ies from <br />nearly level~to 45 percent. Elevation ranges from 5,200 to 7,000 <br />feet (1,585 to 2,134 meters). <br />2. Climatic Features <br />S ±~' <br />a. Precipitation averages 13 to 27 inches (35-43 cm) a ally with <br />fluctuations from yea r, to year. Average annual te~perature is approximately 49° F (9. c). <br />Length of the frost free period averages 120 to 150 d ys and <br />occurs from the middle of May till the end of Septe r. High <br />intensity summer storms followed by hot dry periods n e common. <br />3. Native (Climax Potential) Vegetation <br />a. The potential plant crommunity is about 70 to 80 perce t grasses, <br />10 to 20 percent (orbs, and IS to 30 percent shrubs a trees. <br />This site gives a browse type vegetation appearance. True <br />Mountain mahogany`, tiiq bluest"em, little bl.aestem, sid oats <br />grams, yellow Indiangrass, and Griffith wheatgrass ar the <br />dominant plants 1n the potential plant community. <br />Needleardthread, mountain mutely, Sarrlberg bluegrass, Zue grams, <br />Junegrass, and Indian iicegrass are also present. Nu Brous <br />forbs and other shrubs are present in small amounts. Pinyon <br />pine, Rocky Mountain juniper, and ponderosa pine are 1so found <br />on this site in small amounts. <br />s: <br /> <br />
