Long <br />Grand Junction, CO 81505 Division Director <br />Re: Seneca II-W Mine (Permit No. C-1982-057) <br />Technical Revision Application No. 40 (TR-40) <br />Increase of 10.5 Acre Disturbance Area for Additional Topsoil RemovaVOperating Room <br />Dear West Regional Wildlife Manager: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, <br />Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on August 3, 2001, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the Seneca II-W Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was <br />submitted by Seneca Coal Company. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations <br />initiate from this date of filing. <br />This technical revision is for an increase of 10.5 acres to [he disturbance azea for additional topsoil <br />removaVoperating room in Section 26 and 35, TSN, R88W. <br />The Surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 9 miles South of Hayden. The permit azea is <br />further described as follows: <br />TSN, R88W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 22 and 23 <br />T6N, R88W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24 <br />T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Hayden Gulch. <br />Because the above referenced technical revision application would incorporate additional lands into the permit <br />area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting <br />your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and <br />wildlife resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and wildlife <br />considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, aze requested. L` wildlife habitat <br />is the proposed postmining land use, we request your evaluation of proposed woody plant stocking levels, planting <br />arrangements, and methods for mitigation of potential adverse impacts. <br />A copy of the technical revision is enclosed. Please advise us if you require additional information. <br />
