Site Constmction, Operation and Reclamation
The project will be very similar to that which had previously taken place for current
borehole sites, including CBM-1 through CBM-14 installed for the now closed Sanborn
Creek Mine. The scope of this proposal will be for activities on US Forest Service Lands.
It is notable that GVB-LW7-02 and GVB-LW8-02 are accessed via the reclaimed former
ECM-03-11 exploration light use road. It is also notable that GVB-LW8-O1, GVB-LW7-
O1 and GVB-LW9-O1 are accessed via the reclaimed former ECM-03-10 exploration
light use road.
Overall, the sites will be accessed via the pre-existing Bear Creek canyon ranch road or
the Hubbard Canyon road. New road segments will be constructed using sidecast
construction techniques, cutting and filling as needed to achieve a typical road width of
about 10 - 14 feet.
A temporary, portable 40' modular two-piece steel bridge will be installed across
Hubbard creek to assure all season access. The bridge will be installed above the stream
bed with sufficient clearance to pass the 100 year, 24 hr storm event.
The pad sites will be approximately 80 feet wide and 130 feet long or 0.24 acres. Any
salvaged topsoil will be stockpiled adjacent to the pad. Drill fluids will be collected in
mud pits. (Approximately, 8'D x 10'W x 40'L in size)
After the borehole casing has been completely set, a skid mounted methane pump will be
installed over the well head. The pump will be operated with the methane drawn from
the mine, and any excess gas will be vented into the atmosphere.
Unless otherwise requested, the borehole will be sealed and the new roads and borehole
pads reclaimed in accordance with the procedures further described in the PAP or in
accordance with the applicable regulations. The bridge and any support abutments will
also be removed and the approaches reclaimed.
Threatened and Endaneered Species Assessment, Cultural Resources Assessment
A block clearance cultural resources assessment Titled "Class III Cultural Resources
Inventory of the Block Clearance Area Project" prepared August 26, 2005 by Grand
River Institute has previously been submitted to DMG. This proposed GVB project will
not effect any areas of concern noted in this report.
A "Block Biological Clearance Project" prepared in August 2005 by Monarch and
Associates covers the project area. A copy of the report has previously been forwarded to
the Division. Oxbow will prepare a supplemental raptor and neotropical bird nesting
survey prior to initiating activities.
2
