:• t
Mr. Bill Crick
October 10, 1990
Page: 2
long, 150 feet wide, and 4 feet high (as discussed in Section
4.3.6), then approximately 15,000 cubic yards of material will be
required to cover the stockpile to a depth of four feet.
The topsoil within the "footprint" of the proposed stockpile has
been removed and stored. Given the nature of the soils and subsoil
materials in this area (Nihil stony loam (Section 3.5.2)), at least
two additional feet of suitable nontoxic material are available for
excavation in the area of the proposed stockpile. Two feet of
subsoil within the footprint of the stockpile will provide nearly
8,000 cubic yards of material. In addition to this subsoil, about
8,000 cubic yards of topsoil are available in an existing stockpile
located 300 feet north of the waste pile. This topsoil stockpile
was omitted from the original determination of the available
topsoil for site reclamation, which proved to be sufficient.
Therefore, should it be required, the 8,000 cubic yards of topsoil
in the adjacent stockpile could also be used as cover for the waste
pile, resulting in approximately 16,000 cubic yards of available
nontoxic cover material.
In the detailed plan, NCEC may propose that a demonstration be made
to determine whether or not less than four feet of cover can be
used, as per 4.10.4(5) and in accordance with 4.15.
A detailed plan will be submitted to CMLRD within 6 months of
receiving the permit revision. It is NCEC's understanding that
detailed plans must be submitted and approved by the Division prior
to any construction of the stockpile.
This general plan will be incorporated into the tex*_ of the permit
revision, as time permits and replacement pages provided to the
Division.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to
call.
Sincerely,
ADRIAN BROWN CONSULTANTS, INC.
Michael Galloway, Seni/~ogeologist
cc: E.
