r~
• •
NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology proposes to approve Technical Revision Application
No. l6 (TR-l6) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083), submitted by Bowie Resources
Limited. Approval of this technical revision would permit an incidental boundary change in order to
conduct limited development mining in federal coal. Right of entry into the federal coal has been secured
by Bowie Resources Limited through Federal Coal Lease COC 61209. The incidental boundary change
would add 169 acres of private surface and 130 acres of federal surface to the northern portion of the
permit area. All of the coal to be mined is federal. There would not be any increase in the disturbance
area, no additional facilities would be built and there would not be any increase in production through this
revision.
The Bowie No. 2 Mine is an Underground coal mine located in Delta County, approximately 5 miles NE
of Paonia, Colorado. Presently, the permit area encompasses approximately 2,551.00 acres, 2174 acres of
which are private surface and 377 acres of which are federal surface. Private coal acreage encompasses
1906 acres while the remaining 645 acres are federal coal.
This proposed decision is based on a finding that the proposed operation will comply with all
requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, Section 34-33-101, et seq., C.R.S.,
and the regulations promulgated thereunder.
Copies of the proposed decision are on file for public inspection at the Colorado Division of Minerals and
Geology, Room 215, Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203. Persons with
an interest that may be adversely affected by the proposed decision may request a formal hearing before
[he Mined Land Reclamation Board on the proposed decision. Such request must be made within ten
(10) days of [he initial publication of this notice, must be in writing, and must state with reasonable
specificity the reasons for [he request and the objections to the proposed decision.
