M-2000-016, Lafarge West, Inc.: Riverbend Operation, AM-Ot June 23, 2005
Adequacy Memo #2 - Geotechnical Review Page 2
Please be aware that future models should include the bases for the flow rates, and flow
rates employed for predicting drawdown within one cell should be the same.
From the Division's check of a sampling of the slope stability calculations, it is evident
that the critical failure surface has not always been identified. For slope stability
analyses to be credible, it is essential that sufficient effort be made to identify the critical
failure surface for each scenario evaluated.
Please also keep in mind as you are revising maps to address adequacy issues, that
wherever discrepancies exist between the setbacks provided in the geotechnical exhibit and
the maps, the Division may enforce the more conservative setback, whether in the
documentation, geotechnical exhibit, or the maps. However, if one of these needs to be
changed, all must be changed to provide consistency within the permit documents and
adequacy review responses.
