Mr. Mathews
September 25, 1995
Page 2
therefore a detailed potentiometric map has not been
prepared. Pages 40-42, 52-56 and 60-63 have been updated to
more clearly describe the hydrology of the coal seam and the
Rollins Sandstone. An attempt to remove the duplicate and
contradictory information on these pages has been made.
Exhibit 17 has been revised to include a line showing the
4750' coal contour line.
5. The pages referred to in question 9 cover both mines.
Ground water is being monitored in the form of mine inflows
studies but no further monitoring is proposed with this
submission.
6. A spring and seep survey was done along coal and Jerry
Creeks in March 1995. Reference to this survey is given on
revised page 67 with results given on new page 67a. The
location of seeps found during that survey are included on
Exhibits 17 and 56. A monitoring plan is included on new
page 208b. Page iii has been revised to reference the new
Table.
7. Historic information is not available on Coal or Jerry
Creek. Monitoring sites were identified in March and
initial readings taken. Rather than continuous recorders we
are proposing crest stage gages and instantaneous readings.
Pages 40-41 and 64-65 have been revised to describe these
drainage. New page 65a has been included to show the result
of initial information on these creeks and pages 208-208a
have been revised to include them in the surface water
monitoring plan. Exhibits 17 and 56 have been revised to
show the surface water monitoring locations associated with
these creeks. Page iii has been revised to reference the
new Table.
8. Mine inflows studies have already been carried out on the
Roadside North Portals and will continue to be done. No
pages have been revised associated with this question.
9. The subsidence monitoring section of the permit has been
updated associated with this question. The revised pages
include 224-228, 234-235 and 239-242. A subsidence
monitoring plan has been included for Coal and Jerry Creeks.
References from revised page 80 were added to the reference
pages at the end of the PAP. These reference pages have
been retyped as pages 1-3.
