Proposed Topsoil Removal Exclusions Areas in
Ashmore and Derringer Pits in 1990
During field inspections of Trapper Mine's 1990 topsoil salvage areas, several
locations were identified as meeting Trapper's permit criteria for excluding
these areas from topsoil salvage. These criteria are outlined in permit
section 4.9.1 (page 4-250). - -
The exclusion areas are comprised of rock outcrops that will present a safety
hazard to people and/or potentially damage-heavy equipment. Trapper will make
every effort practical to salvage topsoil in these areas. The rock outcrops
(exclusion areas) are located within Trapper's 1990 stripping limits in
Ashmore and Derringer pits and comprise of 7.8 acres in size (see attached map
M56).
The estimated topsoil stripping quantity for the proposed 180.5 acres of
disturbance in Ashmore and Derringer pits, is estimated at 483,483 bcy (Taule
1). The topsoil yaraage needed to replace 180.5 acres of rangeland to a 12-
inch depth is 291,207 bcy. Based on these stripping and replacement values,
we show a surplus of 192,276 bcy's. Thus, there is sufficient topsoil
available to reclaim the entire Ashmore and Derringer pit areas if the
proposed 7.8 acre topsoil stripping exclusion area is approved.
David, if you have any questions, please call Bill Harding or me.
WSH/WA/kaw/025
Enclosure
pc J.
