Water quality will <br /> be monitored to insure compliance with state and federal water <br /> quality standards . For the first six month period , water samples <br /> will be taken monthly in order to gather baseline information . <br /> The Company may then switch to a quarterly sampling program. <br /> As shown on the map in Appendix C, six sampling sites <br /> will be monitored . Samples will be taken from the upper spring, <br /> upper pond, upper and lower holding pond , lower pond and stream <br /> below lowest pond . <br /> Duplicate samples will be taken , one for in-house <br /> analysis and one to be sent to an outside EPA approved laboratory. <br /> The following parameters will be analyzed : <br /> - pH (Field and Lab) <br /> - TDS (Lab) <br /> - EC (Field ) <br /> - CN total free [available] (Lab) <br /> - Temperature (Field) <br /> Preservation procedures as outlined by the EPA shall <br /> be followed. Duplicates of the following samples shall be taken: <br /> • - One liter of water in a clean, rinsed plastic container <br /> for cyanide tests . The pH of this sample will be <br /> adjusted to 12 . 0 with NaOH. <br /> A second sample of 500 ml will be taken for TDS and <br /> pH. All samples will be packed in an ice chest and <br /> cooled to 4° C. <br /> One set of samples will be retained and analyzed in <br /> Marathon 's laboratory upon receipt. The duplicate set of samples <br /> shall be sent out immediately to an EPA approved commercial <br /> laboratory for analysis. <br /> The analytical methods to be used by the Company are <br /> those specified in the EPA manual which correspond to methods <br /> EN-1 through EN-4 in Marathon' s Procedure Manual. <br /> Please refer to Appendix C for a map of the water <br /> sampling program. <br /> 5 . 3 Drainage Plan <br /> The drainage plan approved in the original permit <br /> . will in general remain the same with the following exceptions : <br /> 5 <br />
