Intermediate wheatgrass (Relative
Cover = 8.3%), Western yarrow (Relative Cover = 3.1%), Rocky Mountain
penstemon (Relative Cover = 2.1%), and Green needlegrass (Relative
Cover = 2.1%) were relatively minor components of the plant community.
However, it is encouraging to note that, even though they are minor plant
community components, the native fortis Western yarrow and Rocky Mountain
penstemon are present in the plant community.
Woody plants found in the five (5) belt transects sampled were the shrub
Big Sagebrush and the sub-shrub Winterfat. Our sampling indicates that shrubs
are averaging 400 plants per hectare or 162 plants per acre over the entire
1984 seeded reclaimed area. It should be noted that woody plant density
standards are presently being discussed with the Colorado Division of Wildlife
so the woody plant density information is for your use only.
ern
4483E
