Pit 1 is
located about three-quarters of a mile northeast of the city of
Delta just off Highway 92 and near the Gunnison River. In March
1977 the Mined Land Reclamation Board approved permit number 77-20
and set the bond at $800.
In the spring of 1980 it became apparent that construction
activity in the Delta area was increasing. The call for larger
amounts of specification aggregate was steadily increasing. This
application for conversion and expansion from a 110 to a 112
permit is a result of this activity increase.
In the center of the 9.70+ acres was a 2.81+ acre pond, a
result of a previous mining operation conducted by Coors. Of the
2.81+ acres, 1.31+ acres were mined out but 1.5+ acres still con-
tained some amounts of aggregate. The 1.31+ acres is not part of
the 9.7+ acres included in Pit 1; however, the remaining 1.50+
acres was included in the 9.7+ acres of affected land. It now
appears that only the top 10 feet of aggregate was mined by Coors.
Accordingly, these lands are now included in the current applica-
tion. The new Stage I becomes 11.30+ acres while Stage II is
added at 8.46+ acres.
5
1
