~ ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
INTERNAL MEMO
TO: Joe Dudash 2 February 2001
FROM: Jim Burnell
Subj: Bowie PR-04 comment response
8. Comment number 8 from the Division deals with analyte suite and sampling dates for surface
water sampling on the North Fork.
The Bowie response incorporated all the requested items that will enable the Division to perform
the proper assessment of the cumulative hydrologic impacts for the North Fork by expanding the
list of constituents to be analyzed during an August sampling event each year.
The Division also requested that the monitoring plan also specify that the various constituents
would be analyzed with a detection limit sufficiently sensitive to provide meaningful data. In
their response, Bowie listed the detection limits for Cd, Cr [V, Cu, Pb, Ni, Se, Ag and Zn as
"TVS."
It's clear that Bowie is attempting to be responsive to the Division's request. However, the term
TVS is an acronym for "Table Value Standard" used in the water quality regulations. TVS is not
a specific number but is a "floating" value based on the analyzed hardness of a specific sample.
So the Table Value Standard for an analyze is not known until that sample is analyzed. An
approximation can be made using existing data.
