Carlson,
The following is in response to your letter of 9/18/86.
1. We will agree to double the rate of seeding where it
can not be done with a grass drill.
2. We recognize our responsibility to establish revegeta-
tion of desireable grass and trees.
3. (a) We will agree to maintain ro more than 12 acres are
disturbed at one time provided it is recognized that the final
shaping of the high rock walls in the course of mining also
represents areas of final reclamation and therefore, may be
released from the summary of total disturbance.
(b) Reclamation will be concurrent with mining to every
reasonable extent possible. That is, reshaping of walls
will be done in the course of mining. Reseeding will be done
as soon after the topsoil material is distributed o~i r.he bench
areas, for example, as good agronomy practices will allow.
(c) See a. above.
Sequential reclamation will follow the reclamation plan as
originally submitted and expanded upon in our response dated
August 26, 1986. Initial mining and subsequent reclamation
will be completed on the high caall located in Phase 1 both in
the course of mining and before significant activity begins
in Phase 2, except that grass seeding in Phase 1 will be done
concurrently with opening activity in Phase 2. The mine floor
area of Phase 1 will be reclaimed as one of the last activities
in the reclamation process at the site, unless the area in
cuestion is not needed for the efficient operation of the mine
in Phase 2. Any islands of trees and grass that can be reason-
ably established on the mine floor without adversely effecting
the movement of eeuipment and materials in the course of mining,
will be established as a demonstration of a good faith effort
to reduce the extent of unreclaimed mine floor.
4. ~4e will agree to maximize r_he area of reclamation to the
extent of available topsoil material can be salvaged from the
mining activity, consistent with good agronomy practices.
Sincerel ,
cc: C b: C Sand /~
I~f~al aPP
