Pendleton and Stevens:
Based on comments received from the Division in our meeting on December 8, 1995,
we were requested by Battle Mountain Resources, Inc. (BMRI) to evaluate fluid travel
times in the saturated portion of the Santa Fe Formation from beneath the tailings
facility to the closest existing Santa Fe Formation monitoring well (M-14), assuming a
hypothetical release from the tailings facility and instantaneous travel to the saturated
portion of the Santa Fe Formation.
The fluid travel times estimated herein are based on a range of actual data and a set
of hypothetical assumptions proposed by Jim Pendleton of the Division that are
judged to bracket fluid travel times under the set of hypothetical assumptions.
To make the estimate of fluid travel time, we reviewed the existing data base and
made several assumptions based on our discussions in the December 8 meeting.
The data and assumptions used in this analysis are as follows:
(1) Fluids were assumed to be entering the ground water talple directly
beneath the centroid of the existing pond, which produced a lateral
distance to the nearest monitoring well of 1,400 feet.
5670 GREENWOOD PLAZA BLVD., SUITE 106 ENGLEWOOD, CO 80111 (703)721-0427 FAX (707) 721-6813
GOLD COMPANY
