M4{INTAIN COAL
C~P,~~YL.L.C. WestfilkMine
A 3°bridiary of fvch Westam Reso, vicee. (MCC) submits the enclosed Minor Revision application for the
drilling of up to two (2) drill holes, per entry, and wells to facilitate an intital monitoring/sampling
period, and then injection of water, foam, and nitrogen into a hotspot, if required, in the B Seam.
26
Mountain Coal Company (MCC) is proposing to drill these wells in Section 1~, of T.135, R.90W,
6s'-Principal Meridian, Gunnison County, Colorado. The proposed project is within the current
permitted coal mining area (Permit Number C-80-007) and on land surface managed by the USFS.
The wells will be located on Federal Coal (BLM) Lease COC-056447. The well numbers are
24HG2E37XC A and B. The wells will be drilled in the area approved under TR-96 and subsequent
approvals for the annual operating plans i.e. MR-306 (2005), for Methane Drainage Wells.
MCC's overall plan for drilling and reclaiming MDWs was originally approved by CDMG on 15
July 2002 as Technical Revision 96 -Project Plan for Methane Drainage Walls for Panels 16, 17,
17S, 18-24. ,The Forest Service performed an Environmental Assessment of MCC's Methane Drainage
Wells Plan, and approval was received in the Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact,
May 31, 2002. Tkrese two proposed wells are in the overall project area but were not proposed for
inclusion in the US Forest Service reviews. As such, these wells are the subject of this separate
Mirior Revision. Because these wells are on US Forest Service managed lands, U5 Forest Service
approval of their installation will be required.
Use ~of mud pits on or near the drill pad excavated in native soil; Mud pit dimensions would be 30' x
30' x 8' to accommodate cuttings with 25% swell, the run-off associated with a 1-acre drill pad and
10 year, 24-hour storm event and 1-ft of freeboard. Mudpit designs and calculations for 1.0 foot of
freeboazd have been previously approved by the CDMG.
The attached Proposed MDWs and New Road Construction for 2005, Map 2, at a scale of 1" _
1000', depicts the general location of the proposed drill pad, and proposed methane drainage wells
(part of the 2005 MDW Project).
