Area 5 is a large area on gently sloping ground that had contained eleven separated
drillholes; it was reseeded in the period 27-31 August, 2001, The locations of the drillholes
were marked on the surface with brass caps. The regrading was very good. Small islands of
original vegetation were left in place when the site was originally excavated. With these in
place. MCC was able to grade the disturbed area back into the original topography as closely
as possible. Area 5 contained a slight drainage Swale that had been returned to its original
configuration. Straw bales placed in the Swale as sediment control had been spread around
and rendered ineffective in just one day by cattle on the site. In numerous inspections, no
erosion has ever been noted, nor any sediment transport off the disturbed area. This area.
because of the heavy grazing, must be evaluated to assess the effectiveness of the
vegetation to provide sediment control without additional devices.
Photo:
~ T ~.. The area, sitting on a steep east-facing slope, contained one drillhole.
the location of which was marked. The regrading was fine, blending the area into the original
topography. Vegetation was reasonable, but a demonstration will be needed if MCC plans to
manage the area without alternative sediment controls. (No photo.)
