The
total area is divided into two parts, a pi-shaped area of 21.9 acres in the east-central portion of the permit
area which connects two areas previously released, and a rough square area of 9.3 acres to the north,
immediately west of a previously released area. These areas were graded to final elevations and had
topsoil replaced at different periods, and were planted to grass (and in one case, replanted} at different
times, but have now become well-established grassland areas, with some catch basins as desired by the
owner. The last two years have had good rains and snows, and these areas now have good stands of
grass and few problems with weeds, The areas have treen restricted from cattle grazing and wili continue
to be restricted for the next several years, as has been the practice on earlier releases. The majority of
these areas had originally been planned for requesting release last year, but showed some signs of weed
problems which have been dealt with, and we now believe it is appropriate to request release. This will
increase the total released area for this permit to 87.0 acres.
STATEMENT
We certify that we believe that all applicable portions of the Reclamation Plan requirements have been
satisfied in accordance with the Rules and all applicable requirements under the Act for the 31.3 acres of
land shown on the attached map.
NARRATIVE
The 31.3-acre area (divided in five areas) is located on both the former Blasting and Mining, Inc. permit
area and Montezuma County Highway Department permit area, and was partially mined by both Four
States Aggregates and the County prior to 2003. For documentation purposes, the total area has been
divided into five parcels, each with a slightly different history. The two areas described in the first
paragraph are divided by an area which has been reclaimed (up to and including seeding) but which will
require at least one more growing season to reach reclamation standards.
See the attached map (the 2006 report map), which marked to show the areas for which release is
requested, as well as those previously released. Pest control measures will continue in these areas (as
in other reclaimed areas) in concert with the property owner, to control weeds in the area; the property
owner will continua to keep livestock off the area for an indefinite period, to allow thickening of the stand
still more, and to protect against poor moisture conditions. In all areas, Western Wheatgrass, Slender
Wheatgrass, and Russian wldrye were planted and are present; other grasses common in the area are
also present and there is no indication of weed infestation. Even 'rf the area is released, under our
mv- i49i-asq 3,d~/~/
~v 6 v ` ~~ rD~r~~4~
rnV- ,qa~-o7l
~- ~ - rrg
3,L~~a6 Cw
