Trapper Mine 1992 Ann• Report (TR-63) •
Response to Adequacy Review Comments
Page 4 -June, 1993
u
d. West Buzzard missed the Spring List A-3 sample and many of the cations on the
December sample. Also no pH was represented.
e. The Ute site does not show pH and the single List A-3 sample is missing many
values.
f. The Elk site flowed on July 24, 1992. No values were shown for EC, pH, CA,
Mg, Na SAR, or 504.
Tranner Res~nse:
B. 2. All missing surface water data that could be located was placed in Table C-I (Surface
Water Quality Data) of Section 2.0 of TR-63. Revised table pages are enclosed.
Missing data values that were not available are discussed below:
Q~ a. Site S-1 second quarter flow data was inadvertently missed and is not available.
~,r~ All other missing S-1 data was added to Table C-1.
c. Fourth quarter Fe and TSS values were not sampled because of site access prob-
lems. Semi-annual List A-3 sample data were not taken because of a logistical
©'~ error in waiting until June to take all semi-annual samples. Unfortunately, by
• June Johnson drainage had ceased flowing. In the future, semi-annual samples
will be taken eazlier in the yeaz during sprmg runoff or at the first flow opportu-
nity.
b~ d. The semi-annual list for West Buzzard drainage was missed in the same manner as
discussed above for Johnson drainage.
`~ e. Because of an appazent misunderstanding with our sample lab some values for the
~, spring A-3 list were not sampled. Data values for parameters sampled are updated
in Table C-1.
CDMG Comment:
C. Water Quality Analysis
1. Groundwater
a. The following wells show elevated levels of Ammonia and Nitrate in 1992 ranging
from 171 percent of the historical average to 3750 percent of the historical aver-
age. No correlation to blasting activities is immediately obvious. Laboratory
changes may be the explanation. Please provide detailed discussion of this phe-
nomenon.
Trapper Response: (George Hoffman)
• ~ ,~(~ The ammonia and nitrate results for the ground-water data at the Trapper Mine
Vo have significantly varied with time, which is fairly typical for these two param-
eters. Some of the nitrate and ammonia concentntioas aze higher in 1992 than
