1992 MR-19 Pneumatic Coal Drying /nstallation 'Page • 2
2.04 ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
Information on environmental resources presented in Section 2.04 of the EFCI Permit
Application document addresses the entire Southfield Permit Area, including the site of the
proposed dryer installation. Also, installation and operation of the proposed coal dryer will not
result in any significant additional environmental impacts beyond those contemplated in the
existing permit application.
2.05 OPERATION AND RECLAMATION PLANS
Installation of the proposed pneumatic coal dryer will involve limited construction within the ~
existing disturbance area currently utilized for coal storage and handling. Construction will ~~1
specifically involve the following activities: /`v4~
• Install Foundation Structures ~i~'f S
• Erect Hopper Structure
• Install Cyclone Dryer
• Erect Pneumatic Pipeline, Walkway and Support Structures
• Install Modular Feeder and Pump Systems
The configuration and relative locations of each of the structures identified above are shown on
the Mine Surface Facilities Map, (Map 18), with plan and elevation details more cleazly
illustrated by Figure 19-1, Pneumatic Coal Drying System -Conceptual Design. Construction
activities, as well as operational and reclamation considerations are discussed in the following
sections.
INSTALL FOUNDATION STRUCTURES
In order to insure long-term stability and structural integrity, adequate foundation structures will
be required for both the product surge hopper and truss supports. The surge hopper and
columns which will support the integrated truss/walkway/pipeline structures will be mounted
on concrete footings poured around driven steel pilings. The hopper will require eight footings
spaced evenly on the hopper perimeter as shown on Figure 19-1, Pneumatic Coal Drying System
- Conceptual Design. The support columns will each be mounted on separate footers with
extended piling supports to provide additional rigidity.
ERECT HOPPER STRUCTURE
The hopper structure will be apre-fabricated steel bin with supporc legs, discharge chute and
slide gate, and upper support strutture for the cyclone dryer and integrated
truss/walkway/pipeline structure. The hopper structure, which will weigh approximately 50
tons empty and will provide surge storage capacity of 300 tons, will be erected using a mobile
crane and mounted on the previously constructed foundation structures.
ACZ /nc. • P.0.
