State Req. <br />4.05.13 SURFACE AND GROUND WATER MONITORING <br />Section IV D of Tab 7 of the mining permit (C-005-80) presents a plan for <br />the collection, recording, and reporting of hydrologic data. The program <br />stated therein has been revised substantially in consideration of the data <br />collected since issuance of the permit. Stated here is the program as <br />approved by the CMLR Division staff in June 1984. The Peabody Coal <br />Company hydrology staff thinks this program is refined to the point where <br />future modifications will be minimal. <br />4.05.13(1) Ground Water <br />Table 7-10-6 lists ground water monitoring well data at the Seneca II Mine. <br />Locations of these wells are depicted on Exhibit 7-2 and well completion <br />information is presented in Appendix 7-I of the mining permit. <br />Water levels are measured monthly at all wells except for only one mea- <br />surement in The winter quarter if access is possible. Twenty-two of the <br />wells are sampled bi-annually. The column noting "analytical parameter <br />list" in Table 7-10-6 indicates which wells are sampled. Table 7-10-7 and <br />7-10-8 list the analytical parameters constituting the "long" and "short" lists <br />now in use at the Seneca it Mine. The difference between the lists is that <br />twelve trace elements are included on the "long" list and not on the "short" <br />list. This difference came about after the CMLR Division staff, after a <br />comprehensive review of the historic ground water data, agreed that con- <br />centrations of these twelve trace elements are typically at such low con- <br />centration to not be of concern. The CMLR Division staff approved the <br />change in parameters in an April 4, 1984 letter to Mr. Tom Wainwright of <br />Peobody Coal Compony. Samples drawn from the spoils, pollutant plume, <br />and bedrock wells GW-S 17 and GW-$6 are analyzed for the "long" list <br />because of the strategic location of these wells with respect to mining. All <br />samples are analyzed in a manner consistent with the U.S. Environmental <br />Protection Agency's Methods for Chemical Analysis of Water end Wastes <br />(U.S.E.P.A., 1979). <br />As the result of a meeting between representatives of the Seneca II Mine <br />and the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division on November 4, 1981 <br />7-10-16 Revised February 22, 1985 <br />
