This request encompasses the following: (1) minor relocation of haul roads, (2) changes in various pit sizes resulting in a decrease in acres to be disturbed by mining, (3) additional stockpile areas, (4) relocation of the office area, (5) adjustment to the mining sequence, and (6) change in the reclamation plan. Haul Roads The pre-mining and mining plan map of Exhibit C of the original permit appli- cation has been revised to show adjustments to the road locations made in the field. A revised map showing these adjustments is enclosed for your review. Four minor changes were made. First, the final 1000 feet of the haul road leading into pit A has been relocated generally parallel to the original plan, but slightly below the planned road to provide a more gradual incline into the pit. Secondly, the haul road leading to pits B and D has been straightened at its juncture with the main haul road near Grassy Creek for approximately 600 feet. Thirdly, the southern most portion of the haul road leading to pits B and D (a 180o curve) has been extended about 400 feet to provide a wider and safer turn. Finally, the last 800 feet of road leading to pits B and D has been relocated to provide a more gentle approach to the mine pits. A compari- son of the permitted map with the revised map will reveal these changes. The Rockcastle Company requests these changes to provide safer grades and turns. The increase in the haul road length caused by these changes is approximately 1000 feet. The total length of haul roads within the permit boundary is about 5 miles.
