There are five units. They are:
o Nihill channery loam, 1 to 6 percent slopes
o Nihill channery loam, 6 to 25 percent slopes
o Detra channery loam, 6 to 25 percent slopes
o Alluvial land; wet
o Disturbed land
The Nihill channery loam, 1 to 6 percent, occurs in the alfalfa
meadow. It is by far the largest soil unit that will be affected.
The Nihill channery loam 5 to 25 percent occurs on the south
facing toe slopes. Detra channery loam 5 to 25 percent occurs
under the oak brrush on the north facing toe slopes. The alluvial
land wet occurs along the west fork of Parachute Creek and
contains the Typic Torrifluvent soils. Disturbed land occurs on
the road fill and where vegetation has been cleared. These units
are described in Table 2; they are not mapped for this project.
South Crossing
The soils of the south crossing are similar to those of the north
crossing. The principal unit is Nihill channery loam on 1 to 6
percent slopes in the meadow. Small bodies of Nihill channery
loam on 6 to 25 percent slopes occur on the toeslopes on either
end of the alignment. Small bodies of Detra 6 to 25 percent
slopes occur under the oak brush on both creeks. Alluvial land
(with Typic Torrifluvents) occurs along the west and east forks of
Parachute Creek. Small areeas of disturbed land occur in the
meadow along ditches and near the major road fills.
SOIL SUITABILITY FOR TOPSOIL
Soil Chemical and Physical Properties
Laboratory analyses for chemical and physical properties are being
conducted by Colorado Agricultural Consultants of Brighton,
Colorado, in July, 1981. The samples tested were collected from
the described pedon of Nihill. The detailed pedon description is
in the Appendix. It was described and sampled in a hand-dug pit.
The other soils were rated from field observations and SCS data.
The results of the soil chemical and physical testing are not
available at this time. When the results are available, they will
be used to support these recommendations. It is possible, but not
likely, that the recommendations for use of the Nihill soils in
the north crossing area will not be supported by the laboratory
analytical data.
