.; ..
January 25, 1999
Mr. Joe Dudash
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Bowie Mine Technical Revisions
Deaz Sir:
iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii
999
RECEIVED
JAN 2 g 1999
Division of Minerals 8 Geology
I own property on Garvin Mesa in Delta County where Bowie Mine has proposed
increased mining and other developments.
Before more mining progresses, an Environmental Impact Study should be completed to
try to determine the over-all impact of the proposed mining by the Bowie Mine. This
includes the use of current silos at the base of Garvin Mesa, (which I might add, are a
terrible eyesore and have been ever since constructed). They offer no appeal to anyone,
only those within the mining industry.
The over-all impact of proposed coal conveyer belts, stacking tubes to create stockpiles
and struck-loading facility needs to be fully addressed. Noise, air and water pollution
will be norm of the day if all of this is allowed.
As I understand it, disruption of our water in our TeROr Creek Reservoir drainage azea
could be affected. This is a critical matter to those residents affected now and in the
future.
The proposed sediment pond located above the river below the old highway 133 would
be a contamination waiting to happen.
The irrigation and domestic water are very important to the residents of Garvin Mesa as
well as those residents of the North Fork Valley. Contamination and pollution of the land
and water is a great possibility.
Our peaceful environment would be disturbed 24 hours a day by the continual noise
caused by the conveyer belts, increased truck and train traffic, the air /water pollution
created by coal dust from the conveyer belt. What about the wonderful wildlife we have
in the area?
