BANTA, Dlnctor
December 11, 1987
Mr. David M. Stout
Environmental Coordinator
Wyoming Fuel Company
12055 W. Second Place
P. O. Box 15596
Lakewood, Colorado 80215
Re: New Elk Mine (Permit No. C-81-O12) Comments on Technical Revision No. 06,
Update and Modification of Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan
Dear Mr. Stout:
As agreed in our discussion of November 27, 1987, I am returning to you copies
of Maps 13 and 14 with Iqy comments regarding elements of the proposed (and
partially approved) technical revision referenced above. Some of these
comments or questions have been made in previous letters, eg, on April 22,
1987 and August 14, 1987. Some of these you have responded to, and some you
have not.
The plan outlined in your letter of December 3, 1987 for implementation of and
for tracking the progress of this revision, when fully approved, is acceptable
to the Division as is the completion date of June 1, 1988. Since the makeup
of the drainage plan/revision is not firm at this point, please furnish us
with a final proposal as soon as possible. Only the West Portal portion of
the plan is currently approved; the East Portal portion has not been and
requires review by a Division hydrologist. Since much of the required review
has already been made on earlier versions of the revision, the time required
for securing full approval of the plan should be minor.
If you have any questions in regard to the above, please call.
Sincerely,
~am~ G s,~
James C.
