Ms. Erica Crosby
RE: Jake Kauffman & Son, Inc..Wagner/Kaufjinan Pit #3 Amendment AM-01
January 11, 2006
Additionally, hydrologic evaluations of the proposed mining and reclamation activities
(evaluation included in amendment submittal materials) suggest that mine dewatering activities
and reservoir construction will not negatively affect -water levels at the wildlife area:. Mining
related disruptions after dazk and on weekends are also restricted under the current Larimer
County special use permit for the Wagner/Kauffman Pit #3. Excavation operations are restricted
to day Iight hours, with minimal activity on the weekends, especially during the winter months.
Potential impacts tathe wildlife azea have also been reduced by the current extent of mining- and
reclamation at the site. hi Phase I of the Wagner/Kauffman Pit #3 operation, the mining phase
closest to the wildlife area, mining is complete and it is anticipated that reclamation activities
will be completed in the spring of 2006. The reclamation plan for this phase of the operation
-' - ' -includes backfilling; grading; and seeding to create pasturela'nd.`Aslllustrated in the airiendinent
application materials, the eastern half of the original Phase I azea has already been reclaimed and
released by the Division of Minerals and Geology. The western portion of Phase I is currently
being backfilled. Having this phase of the operation complete will .significantly decrease
potential impacts to the wildlife azea.
If you have any questions; please do not hesitate to call me at (303) 452-6611.
Sincerely,
Appleg~a,~/teaGroup, inc.
William Schenderlein, P.E.
Project Engineer
cc: Mary Kauffman, Jake Kauffman & Son, Inc.
__ _ __. __-`-°-~1~i Fite No: 04=1Cs6- - - -- - ° - - - • _ . - ~ - --- -- - - -. ^-
C:1D000menls u~d SettinglBil!
