BANTA, Director
DATE: December 29, 1988
T0: Carl Mount
FROM: J. M. Clapton~l~,
RE: Bourg Mine, File #C-81-021
Post Reclamation Water Sampling
Program Chemical Parameters
On 23 December 1988 I had a telephone conversation with Kay James about her
conversation with R. Poison of ACZ. She said that TDS reports were adequate
for semi-annual water quality samples. I have discussed this with staff
members and personally researched the matter, At this time I feel that TDS is
not adequate as an indicator of impending elemental or ionic degradation. I
still feel that the minimized list for analysis of pH, Ca, Fe, SAR,
bicarbonate Na, CL, Soq, Mg, K, TDS and Pb is needed to have a meaningful
monitoring program. I have included Table 6, chemical parameter
justifications. Perhaps this will convince Ms. James of their necessity.
JMC/yjb
2276E
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel. (303) 866-3567
