Installation of the emergency escape hoist will provide a means of rapid
emergency egress from the mine in close proximity to current and future active working areas, as shown on
the Mine Plan Map, Map 23. The planned 6MN Emergency Escape Hoist will be constructed entirely
within the existing 6MN pad area, will result in no new surface disturbance, and will not affect existing
drainage and sediment control structures. Construction will involve:
• Erection of apre-fabricated steel hoist-frame and bull-wheel, approximately 10 x 22 x 25 feet high
over the existing bMN Ventilation Shaft, tying into the existing concrete shaft collar
• Fabrication of a steel frame and expanded metal shaft landing and access stairs, tying into the hoist-
frame
• Fabrication of a similaz shaft landing at the bottom of the shaft
• Installation in the shaft ofguide-ropes for the hoist cage
• Excavation for the hoist-house foundation
• Forming and pouring of the 20 x 30 foot reinforced concrete hoist-house foundation
• Installation of the hoist motor, winch, and associated control equipment on the hoist-house
foundation
• Erection of the pre-fabricated steel hoist house
• Stringing of hoist cable and placement and connection of the 3 x 5 x 8 foot high pre-Fabricated hoist
cage
• Electrical connections (from existing power distribution line) and testing of hoist
• Installation of appropriate equipment guards and fencing
At such time as the 6MN Emergency Escape Hoist is no longer needed to support ongoing or future mining
and related operations, the hoist components will be disassembled and salvaged for re-use or will be
demolished, and the associated disturbance areas reclaimed as part of final reclamation for the 6MN Shaft
installation.
G:\Environmental\REVISION\MINOR-RV\MR07-218 6MN Escape Hoist Installation\MR07-218 Transmittal Ltr.doc
