Long
Dwision Director
Re: M-14 Elevated TDS, T.R.-15, San Luis Project, M-1988-112
Dear Mr. Long:
The Division received and reviewed your letter outlining monitoring events at the M-14
point of compliance. As noted, BMRI collected a sample from the well on July 26, 2001. The
primary sample was sent to, and analyzed by, SVL Labs. A duplicate sample was sent to the
Sangre de Cristo Lab in Alamosa for analysis. TDS measured 489 mg/I in the SWL sample and
545 mg/I in the Sangre de Cristo sample. The permit condition value for TDS ~t the M-14
well was set at 500 mg/l so, since one of the samples exceeded the standard for TDS, BMRI
collected another sample from the well on August 8, 2001. TDS measured 511 mg/I in the
initial analysis and, from the same water sample, measured 493 mg/I in the second analysis.
Since one of the samples exceeded the permit condition value, a third sample was collected
on August 29, 2001. The sample was analyzed twice. The first analysis measured 486 mg/I
TDS and the second analysis measured 487 mg/I TDS.
Pursuant to T.R.-15 requirements, if the first verification sample or the second verification
sample is at or below the permit condition value set for TDS at this point of compliance
(500 mg/I), BMRI may resume quarterly monitoring and no additional action its necessary.
If you have any questions, please give me a call.
Sincerely,
James Dillie
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: James Stevens
