Long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, <br />Section 116, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on March 13, 1997, an application to <br />revise coal mining operations at the Foidel Creek Mine was considered complete for the purposes of <br />filing. The revision was submitted by Twentymile Coal Co. All review and corttment periods as <br />provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />This Revision proposes to reduce the length of the lonwall panels from 16,000 ft to 10,000 ft. The SW <br />gateroad connecting 7R and 2R gate roads has been reconfigured and production rate will be increased <br />to ]0,000 'I'/yr. No new surface disturbances are projected. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 23 miles southwest of <br />Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Rattlesnake <br />Butte. <br />Because the above referenced technical revision application may alter previously approved permit <br />conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of [he potential for <br />impacts to threatened or endangered species of plants or anin3als, or wildlife species otherwise <br />protected by federal law. <br />In order for us [o approve [his revision, we are required to make a finding that "the activities would <br />no[ affect the continued existence of endangered or threatened species or result in [he destruction or <br />adverse modification of their critical habitats as determined under the Endangered Species Act of <br />
