iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii
999
Barry Schreckengost
1959.5 Albion Rd.
Austin CO 81410
Dear Sir or Madam;
RECEIVED
MAR 01 1999
Division o! Minerals d Geology
I am currently an employee of Bowie Resources Ltd. I have worked in the mining
industry for 22 yrs. I support the wntinued mining in the Paonia~area and support the
Iron Point Lease application. This and the lease affecting the Oxbow Mine lease
are a win win situation for the local economy, the envvonment, and the United States.
The mining industry is one of the largest employers in Delta County d'vectly. The
indirect or spin off jobs has been calculated at being 5 to 1 or for every mining job
there are 5 other jobs created to support 1 mining job. The coal mined in the West
is a low sulphur coal that when burned does not pollute the air as does a high sulphur
coals.
The robust US Economy has been driven largely do to lower fuel costs. The coal
mining industry has had a large impact in that 56% of the electricity in the US is produced
from coal, and the cost of coal is half of what it was in the 1970's. No other industry
during the past 20 years has been able to become that productive and lower it's costs by
half. I am very proud to be involved in the coal mining industry.
The concerned residents of Garvin Mesa have shown recently that they aze not willing to
work with the mining industry. Bowie Resources Ltd. asked for a right of way across
federal coal reserves to access more private coal. This would not have increased
production from the operation.
The residents found fault with this request and have appealed again. Showing that the
elimination of mining is what they desire. The elimination of coal mining would
result in higher electric bills and export of high paying jobs and would have a devastating
economic impact in Delta County as well as surrounding counties.
Sincerely;
Barry Schreckengost
