' / During gravel removal from the site any topsoil material should be removed and stockpiled for
future reclamation purposes. Topsoil stockpiles will be seeded to the same seed mix
recommended for the general azea. Upon completion of the mining, slope should be returned to a
2:1 or flatter slope as natural topography dictates. Any topsoil overburden will be spread over the
flatter areas and reseeded with the following seed mix. Depending upon fluctuating annual
Precipitation, reseeding may be necessary. Noxious weeds ]fisted in the Grand County Noxious
Weed Mgt. Plan will be controlled on the site during and after mining.
SPECIES VARIETY % OF MIX DRILL BROADCAST
Western Wheatgrass Barton 25% 4 8
Pubescent Wheat Luna 25% 4 8
Crested Wheatgrass Hycrest 25% 3 6
Sheep Fescue VNS 25% 1 2
These species were chosen for their drought tolerance in gravely soils, ease of establishment and
seedling vigor, ability to crowd out noxious weed invasion, and palatability to livestock and
wildlife.
The best time to seed is in the fall (after Oct. lam.) or in the spring (beforeMay 1~.)
All seeded areas should be mulched with 1 ton/acre weed free hay/straw after seeding is complete.
If you require further assistance please feel free to contact this office.
~N~ ~.-~~ ~~~
azk Volt
District Conservationist - NRCS
1
