~~~~~~~®
999 JUL 2 2
American Shield Coal Company 1991
suite 17s ! Mined Land
10830 North Central Expressway ReCIdRlat10n Division
Dallas, Texas 75231
(214) 692-7872
July 19, 1991
Mr. Steve Renner, Director
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Renner:
American Shield Coal Company is in the process of liquidation
because of the complete lack of funds, resources and personnel,
after having lost over $5 million in its attempt which failed, due
to low coal prices and lack of markets, to develop the Fruita
properties in Mesa County, Colorado, which it purchased from
Dorchester Coal Company in 1986. The three Fruita leases were
surrendered back to their owners in 1989.
Reclamation work was done on the properties by Greg Lewicki
and Associates, of Denver, Colorado, in accordance with plans sub-
mitted and approved by your division, and subsequently 555,000 of
the 591,000 bond held in your Favor was released, and $36,000
remains as a bond to be released after total work is done, in
accordance with the plans submitted by Greg Lewicki and Associates.
Since the Company, as stated above, does not have the
necessary funds or resources to pay for any future work, we request
that we be allowed to have the bond amount of $36,000 to be re-
leased in your favor, thus transferring $36,000 into your account,
and thereby being released of any further responsibility for doing
any further reclamation work on the Fruita properties.
we sincerely hope that this request will meet with your
approval. Thank you and best regards.
Very truly yours,
AMERICAN SHIELD COAL COMPANY
`~ C
By: J. A.
