s <br />DIVISION 2 -SITE WORK <br />SECTION 02290 -FILL AREA CONSTRUCTION <br />PARTI-GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />Construction of fill areas as shown on the drawings and as specified herein including foundation <br />preparation, dewa[ering, fill placement, moisture control and compaction. <br />1.02 RELATED WORK <br />Section 02100 -Site Preparation <br />Section 02270 -Slope Protection and Erosion Control <br />PART 2 - MATERL~I,S <br />2.01 COMPACTED FILL <br />Compacted fill shall consist of random inorganic mixtures of sandy, silty clays to clayey, silty sands. Fill <br />material shall be classified SC-CL according to [he Unified Soil Classification System with a minimum of 35 <br />percent passing a #200 sieve. The materials shall be obtained from excavations, bortow areas or other <br />sources as directed by the Engineer. It shall be free of any deleterious materials, including materials larger <br />than 5 inches, as determined by the Engineer. Oversize rock fragments shall be wasted as approved by the <br />Engineer or stockpiled for use as riprap when found to be acceptable to the Engineer. <br />PART 3 -EXECUTION <br />3.O1 GENERAL <br />No fill material shall be placed until the foundation for each section has been dewatered, stripped, suitably <br />prepared and has been approved by the Engineer. <br />All cavities, depressions and irtegulari[ies, within the fill area shall be filled with embankment materials as <br />specified for the overlying embankment. <br />3.02 DEWATERING <br />The Contractor shall construct and maintain all necessary channels, Flumes, d2ins and related structures; <br />famish all equipment required to remove water from various pare of the work; and maintain foundations <br />and other parts of the work in a state of dryness so as not to impede work activities, become detrimental to <br />related structures, or cause delays. <br />The Contractor shall design the dewatering system and submit the design to the Engineer for approval prior <br />to dewatering. The dewatering system shall assure that the adjacent facilities and any other work will not <br />be damaged by dewatering operations. <br />The Contractor shall dispose of the water in a suitable manner without damage to adjacent property or <br />without being a menace to public health or without causing a public inconvenience or nuisance. <br />The water shall not be drained into work completed or under construction without the consent of the <br />01199 Section 02290 - Page l of 3 <br />
