Box 15596
Lakewood, Colorado 80215
Re: Canadian Strip Mine Reclamation - File No. C-81-026
Dear Mr. Stout:
On September 27, 1985, Wyoming Fuel Company (WFC) submitted a revised
backfilling and grading plan for the Canadian Strip Mine to the Division for
comment. This submittal proposed that the pit be left as an enclosed
depression.
On February 11, 1986, the Division notified WFC that the proposal was not
acceptable.
It is Division's position that the proposal did not adequately address
approximate original contour concerns. The Division stated that an acceptable
reclamation plan would include natural drainage from the pit area.
The Division is requesting that WFC submit a backfilling and grading plan for
the Canadian Strip which would be implemented during the summer of 1986, in
accordance with the WFC's expressed desire to initiate reclamation this year.
Wyoming Fuel Company should be apprised that as part of any permit renewal
process a viable backfilling and grading plan would be required.
The Division looks forward to resolving this issue in an expedient manner.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Steven Renne
Hydrologist
SR/tmb
cc: Fred Banta
Mike Savage
9680E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
